How do ambitious sustainability goals become successfully built projects? Join the SEA-MW Sustainable Design Committee for a presentation by Douglas Schweizer, Liz Resenic, and Ira Cohen, who will share how cross-disciplinary collaboration enabled one of the largest mass timber office buildings in the US while achieving bold embodied carbon, operational carbon, and wellness goals. Light snacks and beverages will be provided!

Sustainability goals are often established early in a project, but delivering on those commitments requires alignment across every project stakeholder. This panel brings together perspectives from architecture, structural engineering, and construction management to discuss how integrated teams can successfully translate sustainability ambitions into built results. Through the lens of the 287,000-square-foot Under Armour Global Headquarters, panelists will share how early embodied carbon analysis informed key design decisions, why mass timber was selected over conventional structural systems, and how collaboration between Gensler, Thornton Tomasetti, Whiting-Turner, and specialty partners helped overcome technical, logistical, code, and procurement challenges. The discussion will highlight lessons learned around mass timber design, prefabrication, constructability, MEP coordination, cost management, carbon accounting, and achieving high-performance building certifications. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of how to establish sustainability goals early, maintain them throughout project delivery, and leverage emerging solutions such as mass timber to create resilient, healthy, and low-carbon buildings.

Speakers:
Liz Resenic, Senior Associate and Sustainability Director at Gensler
Douglas Schweizer, Senior Associate at Thornton Tomasetti
Ira Cohen, Senior Project Manager at Whiting Turner
