Specialized (non-building) Structure
Specialized (non-building) Element
Projects will be judged on their overall structural engineering achievement based on the following five criteria:
In the past the project category of Specialized (non-building) Structures included both structures and elements of a project. This year, those will be divided up into two different categories.
Specialized Structures will now be defined as non-building structures that are supported on their own and are contained within their own project. Examples of Specialized Structures include but are not limited to: pavilions, pedestrian bridges, aqueducts and locks, and sculptures.
Specialized Elements are defined as elements of a larger building project that demonstrate unique structural capabilities. Examples of Specialized Elements include but are not limited to: monumental staircases, balconies, transfer girders, and structural strengthening.
The Pro-bono category is new this year and is to recognize firms that have given back to the community. Projects submitted in the Pro-Bono Category can also be submitted to other categories.
